How To: Clean Your Makeup Brushes

So, I’ve been meaning to make this blogpost for like ever, but to be fair I hate cleaning my makeup brushes. I actually used to never wash them because I didn’t even think about it, but as I started using makeup every day and got a lot more makeup brushes I realized that those things are carrying old makeup and skin oils and bacteria and that’s not good. I now clean my brushes on a semi-regular basis and if I start to break out I make sure they are spotless.

If you’ve never cleaned your brushes before because it just seems like too much work I have a trick for you that will make the process a lot easier. I got this idea from a Korean YouTuber called ssin (they have English subtitles if you want to check them out. Makeup woo!) and it is literally one of the best ideas ever.

The things you will need to clean are a bowl, a small strainer and some liquid soap. I used bar soap for the picture because it looked better than a soap bottle, but don’t let that throw you. Now, take all of your supplies and your brushes to the sink. Put your strainer inside of your bowl and fill the bowl with water, only to where the water just peeks above the strainer. Next, add a pump of liquid soap and mix it in. Or put the soap in before the strainer… Whatever you want.

Now take your brush of choice and rub it over the strainer. You don’t have to be violent, but don’t be too gentle either. If your brush sheds when cleaning then… well, it isn’t a good brush lol. They shouldn’t do that. You should start to see all your makeup residue appear in the water and once that happens get some new water for maximum cleanliness. After you have done this twice it should be fairly clean, but I like to do it one more time with just water, no soap, to make sure that no soap is left in the brush. Ring out your brushes, fluff them back out to keep the shape, and then lay them on a towel to dry.

As you can see by the photos I chose my foundation brush to show you. The tips of the bristles are white originally, but when the brush is dirty it is the color of my foundation. You can really see the difference before and after cleaning.

I hope you guys liked this little how to and if you did make sure to check out ssin’s channel for the original video and other cool stuff. After you are done cleaning make sure you clean the strainer really well, or have one just for your brushes. I have a nail design for Valentine’s Day coming in a couple days, so look for that. Later tater

Miracle Gel “Greyfitti” Review

Hello everyone! Today I have a review for one of my newer polishes by Sally Hansen called “Greyfitti” (#260). So, keep reading to see what I think!  The first thing I have to say is that this polish took 3 coats to get this opacity. That was a little bit annoying, but it didn’t take too long to dry and this color is very pretty. I guess if you needed a really transparent grey color for any type of nail design that this polish could be considered multifunctional.  Also, this color reminds me of Candie’s “Concrete Jungle”, which I’ve done reviews on before, except it's a bit of a lighter shade of grey. I may like Candie’s a bit better… no offense to Sally Hansen lol. This polish is great and you know that I love Sally Hansen products, but I prefer the other one a bit more. Overall, I’d say that this polish deserves 4 out of 5 stars. I like the color and it dries quickly. So far it has lasted with no chips (even though I haven’t had it on for that long so I’...

DIY: Pumpkin Spiced Latte

Hey everyone! So, like the basic white girl I am, I love pumpkin spiced lattes. However, buying them every day can really drain your bank account (or in this case my allowance hehe). Today I have decided to teach you how to make an easy, quick pumpkin spiced latte. Naturally, I found this recipe from Pinterest, but I tweaked it a bit. Here’s what you’ll need: ¾ cup milk (I used 2% because that’s what was in the fridge) 2 tsp. white granulated sugar 2 tbsp. pumpkin puree ¼ tsp. vanilla extract A palm full of pumpkin spice ½ cup hot coffee Whip cream (for an extra touch, but it’s optional) Start off with combining your milk, sugar, pumpkin, vanilla, and pumpkin spice. You’ll want to blend this mixture until it is frothy. I used a hand mixer, but you can use a blender if you want. Next, you want to heat up the pumpkin mixture you just made. The original recipe said to heat it in a sauce pan, which I did the first time, but I was too lazy this time an...

L.A. Colors Color Last - First Impressions

Hey everybody! So I was walking around my local Walmart about 2 weeks ago and I came across a new display of nail polish for L.A. Colors Color Last nail polish. The polishes went for 2 dollars (I think anyway they were pretty cheap) and they claimed to last up to 10 days with the top coat. I decided I’d test that out because why not buy more nail polish that will inevitably dry out and be wasted, whatever. So that is what this blog post is for; I’ll be giving you my first impressions of both the actual polish and the top coat itself.  The color I chose is called “Friendship” and it’s a neutral purple color with slight pink tones. It also has this weird glitter that you can only see when it’s wet or if you have eagle eyes. Anyway, it is a nice color (I used 2 coats) but I had a few problems with application. This particular polish did NOT go on smoothly at all and it looked really rough on its own. I contemplated testing the polish without the top coat on one hand for a ...
